The last time I visited a zoo in Lagos was when there was one nestled somewhere within the intricate maze-like crannies of Yaba a section of Lagos State, Nigeria, that was a really long time ago.
It was therefore with some enthusiasm that I embarked on a journey to Bogije town in Ibeju Lekki to visit Omu Resort, a recreational and entertainment centre which I was told had a zoo within its premises; but I was treated to more than a zoo!
The concept is that of a total-package family recreational centre. There is a lot going on at Omu Resort. The zoo encloses various animals like baboons, monkeys, hyena, ostrich, lion, chimpanzees. Besides the zoo, this place has within its environment, rides suitable for both children and adults. There are also , a miniature golf course, an aquarium (called Seaworld) at the centre, which has various species of fish some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the World. An archery range, go-karting track, a wax museum which has figures of a few of Nigeria’s popular politicians on display. There is also horse riding activities, quad biking and other outdoor fun activities.
There are two classes of entrance fees here, the cheaper one, called the “Gold Ticket” is N3,000 (three thousand naira) has limited access to some activities like the go-karts and quad bikes. The “Platinum Ticket” offers unlimited access to the entire resort. The platinum ticket is sold for N5,000 (five thousand naira).
While I had a nice time at Omu Resort, I felt that the place would grow bigger with time as there was plenty of space for more activities and attractions to be built into the resort. It’s a nice place to have a nice time with family and friends, but if you were coming from the heart of Lagos, you may have to consider leaving home early.
This is a place you could actually spend the whole day in with fun for adults and children.
I will visit the place again.
